Membership in the West Florida Wheelmen Bicycle club has many benefits.

We have exciting plans for the upcoming cycling season. Our goals this year include expanding upon the traditions of the past and adding new and interesting cycling events for the future.  We are planning a ride and event schedule that appeals to the entire WFW membership.  Our goal is to continue our popular rides, bring back the traditions of the club, and implement new and exciting cycling and training opportunities that will interest and challenge all of our members.

The West Florida Wheelmen Club will continue to provide social and fitness road rides throughout the week. The weekly member-hosted Sunday rides for which WFW is known will be anchored by a new regular ride with a consistent centralized 8:00am start at Bagelheads in downtown Pensacola, unless there is a hosted ride by a member.  If the ride is hosted at a member’s house or other location, we will meet there instead and ride and socialize after.  Please monitor the ride calendar and look for your weekly ride reminder for the ride location and updates.  If you are interested in hosting, please contact the ride coordinator.

WFW will also continue our large signature events.  These cycling events include the Annual Battleship Ride to Mobile in mid February, hosted by member Donald Davis; The Dr. Fenner McConnell – Matt Wantz Memorial Bicycle Ride in October; and the third annual Pensacola Cycling Classic in September, a USA Cycling – Florida Point Series’ sanctioned race.

Look for new opportunities available for training and development and also an evening criterium series at Ellyson Park. This will allow any club member the opportunity to train and compete in a lively criterium setting.   With a new director of rider development, we hope to provide training opportunities for the beginning rider as well as the seasoned rider or racer.

As always, West Florida Wheelmen will continue our supplemental accident insurance coverage for members in good standing on all group rides.

Remember that your membership in 2012 will allow for a 10% member discount at all area bike shops for our members.
